Abstract: In this paper we propose an approach for optimizing the performance of current reuse VCO by use of particle swarm optimization algorithm. Designing of VCO is trade-offs among the several specifications such as power consumption, phase noise, and chip, which force the designer to accomplish such a long time complicated work to optimize the circuit. In this work the usage of PSO algorithm in automated optimization of CRVCO has been investigated. The PSO algorithm is implemented in MATLAB which has been linked with an electrical simulator, HSPICE. It gets a netlist as its input while the output is active devices sizes and passive values. The proposed VCO is designed using 0.18µm CMOS technology for near 2.4 GHz band applications with the staking switch two series transistors using current reuse topology and inversion mode of PMOS varactor tank. The proposed VCO consists a single on chip inductor and four MOS transistors that simplifies the VCO circuit and shrink the chip area remarkably. Obtained results which compared with other works prove the effectiveness of this approach.
