Abstract: This paper first illustrates the crucial interplay between culture and language and then emphasizes the role of culture in translation. Within the scholars in the field of translation studies a myriad number of individuals have theorized about the role of culture in translation and each of them has his /her own viewpoint, this study has tried to review them briefly and at the end some strategies for the translation of culture-specific items have been proposed.
